Milestone for Schuberth - 200th Formula 1 helmet presented to Felipe Massa in Belgium

Felipe Massa receives his 200th Formula 1 helmet produced by Schuberth ahead of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Belgium. The Brazilian and the company based in Magdeburg have a long-standing, strong partnership.

Jan-Christian Becker, managing director of Schuberth, presented Felipe Massa with his 200th Formula 1 helmet produced by Schuberth ahead of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. According to the regulations, as of this year no changes are allowed to be made to the helmet designs. Which is why the only differences on Massa's new helmet are that the colours are slightly lighter than before.

Massa has been relying on Schuberth's high-quality racing helmets since 2003. His greatest success in this period was finishing second in the world championship with Ferrari in 2008. In 2009, the Schuberth SF1 helmet saved the Brazilian's life on the Hungaroring in Hungary. During the qualifying session, the then Ferrari driver was driving at around 270 kilometres per hour when an 800g metal spring that came off a Formula 1 car in front of him hit his helmet. Massa has the damaged helmet on display in his living room to this day.

“Schuberth and I have a long-standing and very special partnership,” said Massa. “I have contested almost all of my Formula 1 career with Schuberth helmets. I experienced the importance of optimum head protection in Formula 1 first hand in 2009: My helmet saved my life in Hungary. Since then my relationship with Schuberth has become even stronger.” This was also evident when Massa visited the factory of the company based in Magdeburg back in summer 2014. The Williams driver took time to meet the employees, write autographs and Jan-Christian Becker presented him with a brand-new C3 Pro helmet with his design as a thank you.

“We are very proud of Schuberth's long-standing involvement in Formula 1, and of course of the long-standing partnership with Felipe Massa,” said Jan-Christian Becker. “We always receive constructive feedback on our products from our drivers, and we also use this for series production. It is not only the Formula 1 drivers who benefit from this, our other customers do too. After Felipe Massa's accident in Hungary in 2009, we have made further improvements to our SF1 racing helmet and have made it even safer. We hope to provide our drivers with optimum safety in the future.”

As well as Felipe Massa, four other Formula 1 drivers have placed their trust in the cutting-edge Schuberth SF1 racing helmet: Nico Rosberg, Nico Hülkenberg, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso.
