IT’S A VOCATION, NOT JUST A JOB.
What does a Head of Product Management at SCHUBERTH do?
I do the product strategy, that's one half. We begin by thinking: what helmets do we want to make? We talk to the development team, assign the development mandate, and then oversee the project through the whole development phase right into production and then onto the market.
The other half is portfolio management. Where do we have gaps in the portfolio, where do we have to go. I look at what the market needs. That involves numbers, data, facts. I’m a business administration graduate; numbers, data and facts are what I do.
Elsewhere you’re just a small cog in a large machine. You never get to see the end of the machine, never mind what it churns out at the end. Here you can always see the bigger picture.
Does that mean you watch the markets?
Exactly. We analyse the markets. We look at market developments and trends, we observe registration data not only for Germany but also for Europe, the USA, South America, the Middle East and Asia. Our aim is to provide the Sales Team with the right products for the right markets at the right price.
Is there anything special about working for SCHUBERTH?
Yes, of course! I'm a motorcyclist, I've always had bikes. Working in this industry and being able to make helmets too is great. I can even say I’ve worn SCHUBERTH helmets my whole life! I have never owned any other helmet. I am not product manager for just any product. I’m passionate about these products down to the last bolt. I was really lucky, I was able to turn my hobby into a career.
NEW PERSPECTIVES CHANGE THE VIEW. BEND BY BEND TOWARDS THE GOAL.
To understand our customers needs and transform these into outstanding products we don’t just need extraordinary technical expertise. We need passion. Only by doing this can we as a company find the best approaches to new technologies and ideas, manage growth precisely and position ourselves on the global market.
Thomas Schulz has been with SCHUBERTH for over 11 years and embodies this passion on a daily basis. He has carried out many roles and functions over the years, including: sales coordination, sales representative, key accounts, project development, and ultimately the task of building a successful product management team.
Today he heads this department and, together with his employees, is responsible for product control in the Motorcycle Helmets division. He accompanies every product from the idea to the market - and beyond. Of course, as a passionate motorcyclist, he trusts in SCHUBERTH helmets. He currently wears a C3 Pro, which he co-developed himself as project manager.
PASSION MADE IN GERMANY.
Innovation is what drives us. And with the passion of our employees we pursue new and unfamiliar routes. Here in Magdeburg, a team of approximately 400 employees develops and manufactures helmets for 55 countries. Engineers and designers are constantly working on making our helmets safer, more comfortable and more functional - during the development phase, in our on-site wind tunnel, on the climate test rig or in the acoustic laboratory. And Thomas Schulz and his team play an absolutely crucial role in this.
At SCHUBERTH we have more than 400 experts working on developing, designing and building the best helmets in the world.
We would like to introduce you to some of those experts.
