We thrive on innovation.
Head of Strategic Puchasing/Legal/Human Resources. How did you end up with this unusual role combination?
It wasn’t planned, it all just fell into my hands. I originally started work at SCHUBERTH in 2010 as the Divisional Manager in Supply Chain Management. There was so much reorganisation in the division that I eventually ended up taking on the responsibility for both the Strategic Purchasing & Legal Departments from 2013. Then in July last year, the managing director asked me if I could also see myself taking on the role of HR Manager. Through managing the legal department I had already accepted responsibility regarding the content of employment contracts, and it just made sense to merge the responsibilities.
Like a lot of people who work here, I don’t ride a motorbike yet. But I love go-karting. Obviously I use a Schuberth safety helmet.
Do you enjoy what you do?
I can tell you that I really enjoy creating something completely new, and I like the fact that I am not just involved with the commercial framework for successful business performance at SCHUBERTH, I am also involved on the personnel side.
What was your biggest challenge with regard to HR?
Previously, I had always thought of HR as more of an administrative department. Being able to develop this administrative department into a service department is a critical factor for me. I am over the moon that as my team implements this approach we are spending a lot of time in the departments talking to the staff face-to-face, so that we are actively involved in what’s happening. One of our apprentices was recently commended, as he was the best in his year group. And if we played even a small part as an HR team, then we did something right and got him off to a good start.
A company that has an expanding economic growth strategy must also grow in terms of personnel. That doesn’t just mean taking on new staff. It means above all taking on the right staff. As well as supporting and challenging existing employees.
Arne Koll is one of the people who can take credit for the fact that SCHUBERTH has been able to maintain this level of growth, expanding from around 300 to over 400 employees in the last 15 months. As Head of Strategic Purchasing, his main focus is identifying market, product and material developments and mapping them into an active supply chain management strategy. As the Head of HR, it is his task to find qualified staff for production as well as development and sales. And to offer existing staff training and educational courses to secure the company's technological advantage for the future.
All of these sections have a common factor, on both sides there are people, and that it is not just the purely functional level that counts, but also healthy cooperation. He always keeps that in mind with his teams.
EXPERIENCE WITH STRONG BUSINESS PARTNERS.
Our colleagues are specialists in their respective fields. We work directly and in close consultation with them, our customers and external partners. Here in Magdeburg, a team of approximately 400 employees develops and manufactures helmets for 55 countries. Engineers and designers are constantly working on making our helmets safer, more comfortable and more functional - during the development phase, in our on-site wind tunnel, on the climate test rig or in the acoustic laboratory. Arne Koll is an absolutely crucial member of our team.
